Eligibility Guidelines

Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind provides services to persons who are blind or visually impaired at no charge with the exception of those who access our Low Vision Clinic.

In most instances, a referral from the Division of Blind Services*, complete with eye and medical reports are required to determine eligibility for Program Services.  The individual must be able to benefit from services, possess self-care skills, and pose no danger to self or others.

With the exception of the Independent Living Skills Training,  you must have your own transportation to the facility where services are provided on-site.  Independent Living Skills (Tampa location only) participants must be able to use agency provided transportation (if eligible to ride van).

Those who wish to have a low vision exam by our Low Vision Specialist must have own transportation to our on-site clinic, have medical insurance, or the ability to self-pay for the exam.

Early Intervention Services are provided to infants and young children up to the age of 5 years old.  Youth and through high school are served under our summer transition program.

Summer Transition for Teens serves blind or visually impaired high school youth ages 14 and up.  This program is a five-week class that includes training in daily living skills, a work experience two days each week, and a fun recreational opportunity each week.  Transportation is provided.
